By having the squish clearance too big, like on the stock head, all the gas in that space is never forced to the combustion chamber and isn’t burned until too late of a crank angle to do effective work. Recent research suggests that the standard CP piston line are actually some of the heaviest available. High compression pistons may have problems with the head. Exhaust ports raised 2mm, piston skirts cut 3. Tighten the piston to head 'squish' clearance, put some compression into it (without domed pistons).
